What We Do
Animal Welfare Training for Nepal Police
Animal Nepal is proud to be conducting animal welfare training at police training academies and with municipal police units across all seven provinces of Nepal, with the aim of strengthening the national response to animal cruelty.
These trainings are designed to equip officers and trainees with a clear understanding of animal welfare principles, relevant legal provisions, and practical guidance on how to respond effectively to animal-related complaints and incidents. A key focus is helping law enforcement recognize their primary role as the first point of contact for cruelty cases, ensuring that reports are received, documented, and acted upon through appropriate legal channels.
In Nepal, animal cruelty complaints are often first directed to animal welfare organizations, despite their lack of formal enforcement authority. Through this program, we are working to shift that expectation—encouraging both the public and institutions to understand that it is law enforcement agencies that hold the legal mandate to investigate and act on such cases.
By integrating animal welfare into police and municipal training, we aim to normalize active law enforcement involvement, strengthen enforcement of existing laws, and improve investigation and response practices. Ultimately, this contributes to more consistent accountability and better outcomes for animals affected by cruelty and neglect.
