What We Do

Animal Advocacy

Animal Nepal was the first Nepal-based animal welfare organization to combine hands-on rescue and care with active advocacy, recognizing that long-term, meaningful impact is not possible without systemic change. We work closely with the government, authorities, and other stakeholders to promote and integrate animal welfare principles across policies and practices.

A notable achievement came in 2017, when we successfully advocated for the introduction of the Working Animal Welfare Directive by the then Department of Livestock Services. For over a decade, Animal Nepal has also been actively campaigning for the introduction of a comprehensive Animal Welfare Act.

To support this, we submitted a shadow Animal Welfare Act to the government, ensuring that the legislation truly centers on the protection and welfare of animals.

In addition to legislative advocacy, we have launched nationwide training programs at police academies, raising awareness on animal welfare and protection, and building capacity among law enforcement to respond effectively to cases of cruelty and neglect.

Through these initiatives, Animal Nepal continues to champion the rights and welfare of animals across Nepal, ensuring that compassion and care are embedded into societal and institutional frameworks.
